Building Safer Roads: How the new infrastructure bill will transform highway safety

In November of 2021 the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed; providing a $1.2 trillion investment.  The bill includes commitments for public transit, raid, broadband, the electric grid, electric cars and buses, clean drinking water, airports, and ports.  The largest component, however, is slated for roads and highways with a commitment of $110 billion of new funds.  In addition, the bill also provides $11 billion specifically for transportation safety programs.  This includes upgrading physical safety components such as guardrails, signs, and highway paint markings.  It also includes new innovation related to pedestrian, bike, and worker safety.  The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) has been on the forefront of these issues for over 50 years and was instrumental in securing this funding with a core purpose to move towards zero deaths on our nation’s roads.  We are thrilled to have Stacy Tetschner, President and CEO of ATSSA join us this month for an interesting discussion related to the plans to improve safety through the infrastructure bill and help us understand what to expect in 2022 and beyond.
